FLAGSTAFF, Ariz., Aug. 14, 2024 — A project scheduled for later this month will improve an important gateway trail between the City of Flagstaff’s Buffalo Park and the Coconino National Forest’s Mount Elden- Dry Lake Hills (MEDL) trail system.
The realignment and reconstruction of a three-quarter-mile portion of Oldham Trail from north of Buffalo Park to Spruce Wash includes improvements, such as resurfacing and widening, to make the trail more accessible to recreationists.
“We’re really excited to start work on this project,” said District Ranger Matt McGrath. “The realignment will provide a fantastic opportunity for Flagstaff recreators to better connect with the Coconino National Forest from Buffalo Park.”
Oldham Trail will remain open during the improvements. Trail users are asked to be cognizant of trail construction equipment in the area during the ongoing work.
The Oldham Trail reconstruction is part of a greater Flagstaff Ranger District project to improve the MEDL area.
Flagline Trails LLC, a local trail builder, has been contracted to complete the work, which is being funded in partnership with Flagstaff Biking Organization.
The Flagstaff Ranger District will be looking for volunteers to help complete the final portions of this trail project later this fall. More information about volunteer opportunities is available online on the Coconino National Forest’s website.
