PRESS RELEASE | Data Collection Project for Paved County-Maintained Roads Underway

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Coconino County Public Works recently kicked off a project to inventory the condition of over 300 miles of paved roads that are maintained by Coconino County. To accomplish the data collection component of this project, the County retained the services of Roadway Asset Services, LLC (RAS), a firm that provides professional asset management and mobile data collection services to local and state government agencies nationwide.

Starting this week Austin, Texas-based RAS will utilize its fleet of sophisticated data collection vehicles to ascertain the current status of all paved County-maintained roads. Using high-resolution digital cameras and other precision instrumentation, RAS will collect imagery on all pavement and above-ground transportation-related assets located within County right-of-way. In order to ensure the highest quality of data and imagery, the vehicles will only collect data during daylight hours. The project is expected to last approximately one month; however, this is subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen factors.

The data collected by RAS will be used by the Public Works Engineering Division to establish a benchmark of pavement condition, which is necessary to assess and prioritize future maintenance and capital improvement projects. This data also will be invaluable towards determining optimal treatments to cost-effectively extend the service life of paved County roads.

If residents have any questions or need additional information regarding the data collection vehicles, project, or process, they are encouraged to contact Coconino County Public Works at (928) 679-8300.
