FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The City of Flagstaff and its contractor, Ames Construction, will begin the next phase of the Lone Tree Overpass Project on Monday, March 2, bringing significant roadway improvements — and traffic impacts — to Butler Avenue and Lone Tree Road.
Project Area
Construction will take place:
-
Butler Avenue between O’Leary Street and Lumber Street
-
Lone Tree Road between Butler Avenue and Sawmill Road
Work includes:
-
Roadway reconstruction
-
Installation of new water lines, sanitary sewer, and storm drains
-
Upgrades to concrete curbs and gutters
-
New sidewalks and driveway improvements
-
Realignment to add bike lanes and multi-use paths
The project is expected to be completed in December 2026.
Traffic Impacts
From Monday, March 2 through Friday, Aug. 14:
-
Lone Tree Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Butler Avenue and Sawmill Road
-
Butler Avenue will also be reduced to one lane in each direction
-
No left turns will be permitted onto or off Lone Tree Road from Butler Avenue
A modified traffic control plan will be announced for the August through December construction period.
Work hours are Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., though occasional weekend work may occur.
City officials say local traffic and driveway access for businesses and residents will be maintained throughout construction.
Long-Term Improvements
The Lone Tree Overpass Project is designed to improve mobility and safety by creating a new north-south roadway connection extending Lone Tree Road from Butler Avenue south to Route 66 north.
The project is funded through the 2018 voter-approved Proposition 419 and Proposition 420 measures.
