7:54 PM: Multiple Fire agencies are responding to a new fire start on the east side of Mt Elden. Units are accessing the fire from Christmas Tree neighborhood and Elden Pueblo Trail in Flagstaff. Updates will be in real-time below.
8:07 PM: Crews on scene have reported that the fire, now named the Sandy Fire, is burning approximately 5 acres with a slow rate of spread. The fire is moving through grass and areas containing heavier fuels. All responding resources have been requested to continue to the scene. No immediate threats at this time.
8:17 PM: Updated size of the fire is 1.5 to 2 acres. Fire attack has begun.
8:43 PM: Crews have a hose line around the fire and have stopped forward growth/progression.
