10 AM UPDATE FROM PONDEROSA FD:

The Prairie Fire has officially been turned over to the Kaibab Forest Service. All local fire departments have been released.

– The fire is holding at 45 acres and is 25% contained.
– Firefighters have successfully dug a line around the fire, and efforts are ongoing.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (FS) — A wildfire burning west of Flagstaff, between Parks and Williams and south of Interstate 40, has scorched 45 acres, prompting officials to issue an evacuation notice for the Whispering Pines Ranch area. The Prairie Fire is moving slowly westward, according to Ponderosa Fire officials, who are warning residents they may need to evacuate. The lower western area near Pine Access Road and Dust Devil Road is currently affected, with the fire held to the north by railroad tracks. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Multiple agencies are responding to the blaze, including the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, Ponderosa Fire Department, Williams Fire Department, Flagstaff Fire Department, Highlands Fire Department, Camp Navajo Fire Department, Kaibab National Forest, and Bear Jaw fire crews.

A wildfire has affected over 20 acres near Whispering Pines Ranch, with a low rate of spread to the west. The railroad tracks are holding the fire to the north, and the lower west area around Pine Access Road and Dust Devil Road is being impacted. Unofficially in READY position. The county should put out the alert shortly. Pine Aire is not being threatened at this time.
An evacuation Notice has been issued for the Whispering Pines Ranch.
