FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Major roadway repairs are coming to two heavily traveled corridors in Flagstaff, as the City prepares to repave Cedar Avenue and West Street starting Monday, September 15. Work is expected to continue through early December, depending on weather conditions.
According to city officials, the project will address deteriorated sidewalks, curbs, and asphalt surfaces that have developed cracks and patches over time. Crews will remove a thin layer of the existing pavement and replace it with new asphalt, improving roadway safety and durability.
The construction zone will include:
-
West Street/Linda Vista Drive from the slip lane to Cedar Avenue
-
Cedar Avenue from West Street to the west side of the new Fourth-Lockett roundabout
Work will occur on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Crews will start with concrete replacement along both sides of the roads, which may temporarily restrict driveway access. Roadway reconstruction will be performed in sections, with half the roadway closed at a time to allow one lane of traffic in each direction. The schedule calls for beginning on the north side of Cedar Avenue, moving south, and finishing with West Street/Linda Vista Drive.
Residents and commuters can expect:
-
Reduced speeds and traffic delays
-
Traffic control devices and cones
-
Rough road conditions and construction noise
-
Temporary detours for pedestrians and bicyclists
-
Access restrictions for driveways and businesses
City staff emphasized that crews will work closely with homeowners and businesses to maintain access whenever possible.
The Cedar Avenue corridor work is nearing completion as part of the City’s broader effort to reduce post-wildfire flooding impacts to surrounding neighborhoods.
