Victims identified in double fatal crash



Update:
The drivers of the vehicles were identified as Daniel Lomayestewa, 30, with a last known address in
Second Mesa, AZ. The second driver has been identified as Sherra Lyon, of Mormon Lake, AZ.
The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Flagstaff Fire Department, Guardian Medical Transport,
and Coconino County Public Works for their assistance with this tragic incident. Due to the ongoing
investigation, no further information is available at this time.

PRESS RELEASE FROM CCSO: On June 8, 2023, at 6:30 pm, Coconino County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the report of a crash involving two vehicles on Lake Mary Road at mile post 330. After arriving on scene Deputies were informed by medical personnel that there were two fatalities. On scene investigation revealed a black Nissan Maxima driving northbound crossed over the centerline and struck a silver Toyota Corolla that was driving southbound. The head on collision ultimately resulted in both drivers being declared deceased on scene by medical personnel. The driver of the black Nissan Maxima was driving on a suspended driver license. There were indicators of possible alcohol impairment of this driver as well. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
Accident Reconstruction Investigators from the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. Lake Mary Road was closed at mile post 330 at 6:30 pm and reopened at 12:30 am this morning. Deputies received information from a passerby who reported seeing a black Nissan Maxima driving recklessly prior to the accident occurring. Both drivers were removed by the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office and taken to their office in Flagstaff for additional investigation. Toxicology results will determine any level of
impairment by either driver.

6:28 PM Flagstaff Fire, EMS, Forest service, a medical helicopter, and CCSO are all responding to a report of a very serious accident on Lake Mary Rd roughly 10 miles east of the Lake Mary store. First arriving units are confirming at least 2 victims are deceased on scene.
