BREAKING: FREIGHT TRAIN INADVERTENTLY DECOUPLES IN FLAGSTAFF

On June 7th, at approximately 7 PM, a BNSF train traveling west separated in two. It is unknown why the incident occurred. The train’s failsafe brake system immediately kicked in and stopped the train within a few seconds. While BNSF was solving the problem, the train continued to block the Ponderosa Pkwy, San Francisco, and Beaver St crossings. Flagstaff Police responded to the area and directed traffic away from the tracks. A few officers also supervised the two crossings downtown due to multiple intoxicated individuals attempting to climb over or under the stopped train.
