FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Beginning with the January 6 City Council Meeting, the City of Flagstaff will implement enhanced security screening for all individuals entering Council Chambers, including city employees, councilmembers, and members of the public.
Under the new procedures, all meeting attendees will enter through an OpenGate weapons detection system, a walk-through screening device designed to provide quick and efficient security checks. For individuals who are unable to use the walk-through system, a handheld metal detector will be available as an alternative option.
City officials emphasized that existing rules remain in place — weapons are not permitted inside City Hall. Secure lockers will continue to be available at the entrance for those who need to store prohibited items before entering the building.
Attendees are encouraged to arrive a few minutes early, especially during the initial rollout, to allow additional time for screening. City officials thanked the public for their cooperation and patience as the new measures are put into place.
The City says the enhanced screening is intended to help ensure a safe and welcoming environment for conducting City business.
