FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The City of Flagstaff, in partnership with Mountain Line and contractor Kinney Construction Services, will begin construction on a series of pedestrian crossing improvements along Soliere Avenue starting the week of June 1.
The project is part of the City’s “First Mile, Last Mile Initiative,” which aims to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility near Mountain Line bus stops throughout Flagstaff by adding safer crossing infrastructure.
According to the City, most of the new crossings will feature pedestrian refuge medians, allowing pedestrians to cross one lane of traffic at a time rather than traversing the entire roadway in a single crossing.
The new pedestrian crossings will be installed at the following locations:
- Soliere Avenue and Fox Lair Drive (east)
- Soliere Avenue and Fox Lair Drive (west)/Brian’s Way
- Soliere Avenue and Elk Run Street
- Soliere Avenue and Butterfield Drive
- Soliere Avenue and Timberline Drive
Construction activities are expected to take place Monday through Friday between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
City officials say one lane of traffic in each direction will remain open throughout the project. Businesses, schools and residential neighborhoods in the area will continue to be accessible during construction.
Motorists should expect possible travel delays, construction equipment in the roadway and temporary traffic control measures. Periodic sidewalk and pedestrian closures may also occur as work progresses.
Drivers and pedestrians are encouraged to follow posted signage, use caution when traveling through the construction zone and consider alternate routes when possible.
