At about 7 p.m. Saturday, three engines, a rescue unit, and a battalion chief from the Flagstaff Fire Department responded to a chimney fire at Black Bart’s Steakhouse.
Crews arriving first found an active chimney fire. They deployed a ground ladder and a pre-connected hose line to attack the flames from the rooftop. Their quick actions kept the fire contained to the chimney’s exterior, preventing it from spreading to the roof or attic.
Additional crews checked the interior of the building for fire extension and assisted patrons in exiting safely. Firefighters also worked with the restaurant’s lead chef to minimize property damage.
Crews remained on-site to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and gave an impromptu tour of a fire truck to curious children whose dinner had been disrupted.
As winter approaches, the Flagstaff Fire Department urges residents to use caution when operating heating sources. Stay safe and warm.
