Fire managers with the Coconino National Forest are monitoring smoldering slash piles along Snowbowl Road, which continue to produce noticeable smoke in the area. Smoke production is expected to increase throughout the week. The pile burns, located about 3 miles up Snowbowl Road, approximately 7.5 miles northwest of Flagstaff, are part of efforts to remove forest fuel left over from timber treatments. As the piles burn and creep together, smoke may impact nearby areas, including Fort Valley and Baderville, through Friday and possibly into Saturday. Visitors traveling on Snowbowl Road should exercise caution, as Forest Service personnel and vehicles will be present near the burn area through the end of the week.
