The following is from the Flagstaff Police Department:
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — October 6, 2024 — At approximately 12:57 PM, Flagstaff Police and emergency medical personnel responded to a serious vehicle collision in the 4200 block of S. Lake Mary Rd, involving a truck and a motorcycle. The operator of the motorcycle, Richard Alan Swendsen, 66, of Prescott, AZ, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The truck was operated by Christopher Jon Hands, 65, of Phoenix, AZ. Upon contact with Mr. Hands officers observed signs of impairment. Following the initial investigation, he was booked into the Coconino County Jail on charges of 2nd Degree Murder, Failure to Stop for a Vehicle Accident Involving Death, and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.
The Flagstaff Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Team is actively investigating the cause and circumstances surrounding the crash.
