FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Residents across the Greater Flagstaff Region are invited to help shape the future of local wildfire preparedness by participating in an upcoming virtual public meeting focused on updating the region’s Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP).
The online meeting will be held on Thursday, June 25, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Organizers are encouraging residents to register in advance and participate in the community-driven planning effort aimed at reducing wildfire risk and improving preparedness across northern Arizona.
According to project leaders, the updated CWPP will assess wildfire threats throughout the Greater Flagstaff Region and identify strategies to strengthen wildfire mitigation, emergency response coordination, preparedness efforts, and post-fire recovery planning.
During the virtual meeting, attendees will receive an overview of the update process, learn why the plan is important to local communities, and hear how residents can contribute feedback. The presentation will also include wildfire preparedness information for homeowners, including defensible space concepts and practical steps residents can take to reduce wildfire risk around their homes and neighborhoods.
Members of the CWPP Core Team will be available to answer questions during a question-and-answer session following the presentation.
Officials say public participation is a critical part of the planning process. Feedback gathered from residents will help guide updates to the plan. A draft version of the revised CWPP is expected to be released for public review this fall, providing additional opportunities for community input before the plan is finalized.
The CWPP Core Team includes representatives from local, state, and federal agencies, including the City of Flagstaff and the City of Sedona. The update effort is being supported by SWCA Environmental Consultants, which is serving as the project’s technical consultant.
Residents seeking additional information about the CWPP update, upcoming engagement opportunities, or meeting registration details can visit the project website or contact the City of Flagstaff Wildland Fire Program.
