FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Coconino County’s contractor is mobilizing to break ground next week on a project to replace the existing Volunteer Wash box culvert on Old Route 66.
Starting Monday, August 26, Old Route 66 will be closed for up to 65 days between N. Cool Pines Road and N. Sherwood Forest Road to reconstruct the box culvert. During this period all traffic will be detoured along E. Pittman Valley Road.
The $1 million Old Route 66/Volunteer Wash Box Culvert Replacement Project features an in-kind reinforced replacement of the aging Volunteer Wash concrete box culvert, which is located on Old Route 66 approximately 0.70 miles east of N. Cool Pines Road & 0.45 miles west of N. Sherwood Forest Road.
Tiffany Construction is scheduled to work weekdays during daylight hours with some weekend work possible. Flaggers, detour signage, and other traffic control will be used to guide vehicles around the construction zone. Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to use extra caution and obey posted speed limits through the detour area.
During the project, construction information will be regularly updated and posted on the project’s web page at www.coconino.az.gov/RoadProjects.
