FLAGSTAFF, Ariz – Road repair and maintenance work is scheduled to take place on Aspen Ave. in downtown Flagstaff in July and August as part of the City’s annual Road Repair and Street Safety program. Members of the public should expect intermittent traffic impacts during the following time frames:

  • Tuesday, July 23 – Crews will work to lower underground utilities underneath Aspen Ave. from Humphreys St to Elden St. This work will allow crews to remove and replace pavement without damaging the existing utilities. The utility lowering is expected to be completed in one day and impacts will entail lane closures and some noise and dust from construction equipment, which will be limited as much as possible.
  • Monday, July 29 – Friday, August 9 – Crews will replace portions of the sidewalk along the north and south sides of Aspen Ave. between Humphreys St and Elden St. Only areas of sidewalk that have been identified as deficient will be replaced. Crews will aim to complete work on one side of the street before starting work on the other side to maintain access for pedestrians.
  • Beginning of August (exact date to be determined) – Crews will replace the asphalt on Aspen Ave. between Humphreys St and Beaver St, necessitating a full closure of Aspen Ave. on this block. The closure is anticipated to last two days and work hours will be from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. More information on this planned closure will be released as it becomes available.

The City and its contractor, C & E Paving and Grading, are taking all possible measures to minimize the impact of this work on local residents and businesses, including beginning work in the morning to limit afternoon and evening impacts to businesses and limiting full closures of roads and sidewalks whenever possible.

The annual Road Repair and Street Safety program is funded by Flagstaff voters’ 2014 approval of Proposition 406, a $100 million, 20-year dedicated sales tax for road repair and street safety projects. For more information, including weekly project updates, visit Flagstaff.az.gov/RoadRepair.
