FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Summer is here with opportunities to volunteer! Join the City of Flagstaff Stormwater Management Section on Saturday, July 27 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to assist with sandbag removal operations in the Coconino Estates neighborhood.

Volunteers will assist with removal, disposal, and debris clean-up related to temporary flood mitigations and sandbags. The City will provide gloves, safety vests and the necessary supplies. Volunteers are encouraged to wear closed-toed shoes, long pants, gloves, and a hiking buff and glasses for dust. Volunteers should also bring water and sun protection. Volunteers can sign up until the morning of the event at bit.ly/2024sandbagvolunteers.

The removal of sandbags in the Coconino Estates neighborhood is possible due to the progress on the Schultz Creek Drainage Improvement project, which will alleviate the post-fire flood threat from the Pipeline Fire (2022). Funding for this project was provided through an appropriation from the State of Arizona during the 2023 legislative session. For more information about the Schultz Creek Drainage Improvements project, please visit Flagstaff.az.gov/PipelineWest.

Residents who are elderly or have a disability and need assistance with their sandbags can call the City’s service request line at 928-213-2102. Additional questions can be directed to this line as well.
