Suspect in Wednesday Shooting Incident Identified



FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.- On May 15, 2023, at approximately 9:24 AM, Flagstaff Police responded to Brannen Circle and Lone Tree area regarding shots fired.  Upon arrival officers located several witnesses who stated a male came out of the wooded area and fired off several rounds into the air.  The witnesses described the male and said he was accompanied by another male. The witnesses also reported the suspects may be recorded on security video and they provided photos to the officers.  The suspects fled down the urban trail and were not located during the initial search.

At approximately 11:19 AM Flagstaff Police were called to the area of Bushmaster Park for another report of shots fired in the area.  Officers found several witnesses and victims who stated a Native American male, dressed in a brown jacket, and armed with a small black pistol pointed the weapon and fired at several groups of people.  The suspect was reported to have accosted one group and demanded a cigarette before firing rounds into the ground next to them.  No injures were reported because of the gunfire.  Witnesses provided photos and video of the suspect walking through the park.  The Flagstaff Police Department notified area schools and activated a reverse 911 emergency system to warn people in the neighborhoods around Bushmaster Park. 

Officers located the suspect walking in the area of Fourth Street and Sixth Ave where he was taken into custody without incident.  Alan Kaye French, 33, of Flagstaff was arrested and is charged with several counts of disorderly conduct with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault, and robbery.  He was booked into the Coconino County Detention Facility.
