FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Emergency crews responded Friday evening after a vehicle was struck by a passing train at a busy eastside railroad crossing.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., officers with the Flagstaff Police Department and personnel from the Flagstaff Fire Department responded to the railroad crossing at Ponderosa Parkway and East Route 66 for a reported train versus vehicle collision.

According to initial information, a black Ram pickup truck was stopped on the tracks when it was struck by a passing train. The train collided with the rear bed of the truck.

No injuries were reported as a result of the crash. Impairment is believed to have been a factor and the driver was arrested.

The train was temporarily stopped following the collision, causing brief disruptions in the area. As of Saturday morning, the railroad crossing has been cleared and normal traffic flow has resumed.

Officials have not released information on what caused the driver to remain on the tracks after warning signals and crossing arms had been activated.
