UPCOMING SANDBAG REMOVAL AND OPERATIONS SCHEDULE

The culvert at US Hwy 180 is now open and residents impacted by post-wildfire flooding from the 2022 Pipeline Fire can begin moving their sandbags to the curb for August pickup. City of Flagstaff employees cannot go onto private property to remove sandbags, so residents are urged to ensure their sandbags are placed in City Right of Way prior to pick-up, which City of Flagstaff crews will conduct on a rolling basis.

Please also be advised of the following sandbag operations which may impact your area:

  • Saturday, July 27 at 9am to 12pm: Volunteers will assist with sandbag removal for elderly and disabled residents of the Coconino Estates neighborhood. Volunteers will meet at the Flagstaff Sustainability Office, 419 N Mogollon St. Volunteers can sign up until the morning of the event at ly/2024sandbagvolunteers.
  • Tuesday, July 30 until early August: The Arizona Conservation Corps will be removing sandbags that were placed by City of Flagstaff crews around select high density residences and street Right of Way.
  • Rolling August dates and times: City of Flagstaff crews will conduct pick up of all sandbags placed at the curb of Coconino Estates residences. Sandbag pick up will continue into the Fall.

Residents who placed unauthorized sandbags along Hwy 180 and the Arizona Department of Transportation Right of Way are advised to remove them by August 10.

The removal of sandbags in the Coconino Estates neighborhood is possible due to the progress on the Schultz Creek Drainage Improvement project, which will alleviate the post-fire flood threat from the Pipeline Fire (2022). Funding for this project was provided through the Stormwater Utility Fund and an appropriation from the State of Arizona during the 2023 legislative session. For more information about the Schultz Creek Drainage Improvements project, please visit Flagstaff.az.gov/PipelineWest.

While the culvert at US Hwy 180 is now substantially complete, construction will continue over the next few months for road paving and landscaping.
