2:46 PM USFS has units responding to a new wildland fire start in the area of Forest Service Rd 518 and southwest of A-1 Mountain. The fire is small at this time, but smoke can be seen from Woody Mountain Fire Lookout Tower. No structures are believed to be threatened at this time. Updates will be below.
UPDATE 3:07 PM: The fire is estimated to be between 3-5 acres, with a low/medium rate of spread and moderate growth potential.
UPDATE 3:40 PM from Coconino National Forest
Firefighters are responding to a small wildfire located near A1 Mountain roughly 6 miles west of Flagstaff.
Resources assigned to the Soggy Bottom Fire include six engines, a water tender and two hand crews.
The fire is between 5 and 7 acres with a moderate rate of spread through grass and timber.
There are no value at risk in the immediate fire area. Crews are working to protect structures in the Brackin Ranch area.
Smoke is expected to remain visible in the fire area during suppression activities.
The public is asked to avoid the area of the fire to provide for firefighter and public safety.
FINAL UPDATE: Crews have a line around the fire and forward spread has been stopped.
