Bear removed from Flagstaff neighborhood Friday morning

From the Flagstaff Fire Dept: On December 8th, the Flagstaff Fire Department’s Engine 6, Quint 3 and Batallion 1 responded to a call for assistance from Game and Fish officers in a residential neighborhood. The request was to aid in the safe removal of a Bear from a tree in the neighborhood. Upon arrival, Game and Fish officers utilized a dart gun to tranquilize the bear. As the bear fell asleep, firefighters and crews from the quint made efforts to safely extract the bear from the tree. However, during the process, the bear shifted its position, necessitating a second tranquilization. Regrettably, after the second tranquilization the bear fell from the tree. Fortunately, despite the unexpected outcome, the bear landed in an area devoid of homes and potential hazards, averting any danger to residents or property. The bear alive but still sedated was safely transported to an Arizona Game and fish officers vehicle. While the desired outcome wasn’t achieved as planned, the collaborative efforts of the Fire Department, Game and Fish officers, and the crew prevented any harm to the surrounding area and ensured an overall safe outcome for all involved.
