FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — September 20, 2025 – A tragic two-vehicle collision early Saturday morning left one man dead and sent a Flagstaff Police Department officer to the hospital.
According to officials, the crash occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. near the intersection of East Butler Avenue and Sinagua Heights. Emergency crews from both police and medical services responded immediately, providing life-saving care at the scene.
Despite their efforts, the male driver of the second vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The involved officer was transported to Flagstaff Medical Center, where they remain under emergency care.
Investigation Assigned to DPS
Due to the circumstances of the crash, the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) has been asked to lead the collision investigation. DPS investigators will work to determine the factors that led to the crash, including whether speed, impairment, or other conditions played a role.
Separately, the Flagstaff Police Department confirmed that its Professional Standards Unit will conduct an internal review, as is standard procedure whenever an officer is involved in a serious incident.
