FLAGSTAFF, AZ – The City of Flagstaff is urging drivers to use extreme caution tonight as heavy rain continues to create dangerous driving conditions and flood multiple roadways throughout the city.

Public Works crews and emergency responders have been busy responding to calls for stranded motorists and flooded intersections across several major routes.

One of the hardest-hit areas is Leroux Street near Cottage Avenue, where the Flagstaff Street Department was forced to close the roadway after multiple vehicles became stuck in rising water — including a Flagstaff Police patrol unit.

Other trouble spots include:

  • Huntington Drive

  • Milton Road and Route 66

  • Interstate 40 near the Lone Tree Overpass

  • 89A has substantial rocks and debris blocking lanes at the switchbacks

City crews have placed barricades at several locations. Drivers are reminded never to drive around barricades and to turn around, don’t drown — even shallow moving water can disable a vehicle or sweep it off the road.

Motorists are encouraged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and avoid low-lying areas or underpasses prone to flooding. If you encounter a flooded street, find an alternate route.

Flagscanner will continue monitoring weather and road conditions through the night. Updates will be posted as new information becomes available.
