FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The City of Flagstaff is notifying residents of a proposed increase to its primary property tax rate that would generate approximately $500,411 in additional revenue for the upcoming fiscal year.

According to a Truth in Taxation notice released by the city, the proposed increase represents a 6.89% rise in primary property taxes over last year’s level. City officials say the additional revenue would be dedicated to ongoing Fire and Police operations.

Under the proposal, the City of Flagstaff’s primary property taxes on a home valued at $100,000 would increase to $62.07 annually. Without the proposed increase, the tax would have been $58.07, resulting in a difference of approximately $4 per year for a $100,000 home.

City officials noted that the increase in the primary property tax rate would be offset by a decrease in the secondary property tax rate. The proposed increase also does not include additional tax revenue generated by new construction, nor does it account for any future changes related to voter-approved bond indebtedness or budget and tax overrides.

The proposed tax increase has been discussed during City Council retreats held on February 5 and April 23, 2026. Recordings of those meetings are available on the city’s YouTube channel.

Residents will have an opportunity to comment on the proposal during a public hearing scheduled for:

Tuesday, June 16, 2026
3:00 p.m.
Flagstaff City Council Chambers
211 W. Aspen Ave.
Flagstaff, Arizona

All interested citizens are invited to attend and provide feedback before the City Council considers the proposed increase.
