FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The City of Flagstaff is inviting the public to take part in “Voices Unheard: Breaking the Silence – A Community Gathering for Prevention, Strength, and Healing,” a day-long event focused on awareness, education, and healing surrounding the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives (MMIR) crisis.
The gathering will take place Wednesday, October 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Coconino Center for the Arts, located at 2300 N. Fort Valley Road.
Organizers say the goal of the event is to educate Northern Arizona residents about the ongoing MMIR crisis and highlight the warning signs and precursors that can lead to violence, stalking, and harassment.
Film Screenings Leading Up to the Event
In the days before the main gathering, two films will be shown at the same venue to set the stage for the conversation:
-
“The Shapeshifting Defense” – Monday, October 20, at 5:30 p.m.
-
“She Cried That Day” – Tuesday, October 21, at 5:30 p.m.
Both screenings will take place at the Coconino Center for the Arts and are free to attend.
Registration and Support
All three events — the two film screenings and the Voices Unheard gathering — are free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to register in advance at https://elev8voices.info.
The events are made possible through collaboration and support from the City of Flagstaff, Coconino County, and the Coconino Coalition for Children & Youth.
