FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Around noon Friday, Flagstaff Police were called to Summit High School on Cummings Street following reports of a student on campus with a gun inside his backpack.
Officers immediately began searching the campus and interviewing students involved. During the investigation, they learned that the suspected student had already left the school and was last seen heading toward the Flagstaff Mall’s food court.
Police responded to the mall, where they located the juvenile suspect in the food area. When officers attempted to contact him, the student ran on foot, sparking a pursuit through the mall and out a rear exit.
During the chase, the suspect discarded a firearm, which officers later recovered. After a brief pursuit, police were able to take the juvenile into custody. He was arrested and transported to the Coconino County Juvenile Detention Center.
It is unknown if a lockdown procedure was put in place at Summit High School during the incident. No injuries were reported.
This case remains under investigation.
