FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Fire officials are planning a small prescribed burn operation in the Thorpe Park area on Tuesday, April 14, taking advantage of favorable weather conditions this week.

According to the Wildland Fire Management Division, crews will be igniting a limited number of slash piles in the area. The recent cooler temperatures and precipitation have created conditions that allow firefighters to safely and effectively conduct the operation.

Officials say the piles are the result of recent hazard tree removal efforts. Those mitigation efforts were completed to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfire and improve overall public safety for those recreating in the area.

Residents and visitors near Thorpe Park may see smoke during the operation. Fire personnel will be on scene monitoring conditions throughout the burn.

The prescribed fire is part of ongoing efforts to strategically reduce wildfire risk across the Flagstaff area.

Officials are asking for the public’s patience and support as crews continue proactive mitigation work.
