FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. Residents across the Greater Flagstaff region are invited to attend an upcoming public meeting focused on wildfire preparedness and planning efforts.
The meeting, centered on updates to the Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP), is scheduled for April 23 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Flagstaff Aquaplex. Community members will have the opportunity to engage directly with local fire officials, wildfire experts, and project staff.
Attendees can learn about the ongoing process to update the CWPP, provide input to help shape the plan, and receive guidance on reducing wildfire risks both in surrounding forested areas and around their homes.
Key components of the updated CWPP will include:
- Hazardous fuels reduction strategies
- Public outreach and education efforts
- Structural ignitability reduction
- Enhancements to wildfire response capabilities
Officials say the plan is designed to strengthen safety measures for residents and protect critical infrastructure throughout the Greater Flagstaff area in the event of a wildfire.
The update effort is being supported by a recently awarded Community Wildfire Defense Grant to the City of Flagstaff, which will help guide wildfire mitigation planning across parts of Coconino and Yavapai counties.
Residents who are unable to attend the meeting are encouraged to participate by completing the Greater Flagstaff Community Wildfire Protection Plan Public Survey, which will help provide valuable community input.
Additional information about the project, including access to the survey, is available on the CWPP website. Community members with questions can also reach out via email at GreaterFlagstaffCWPP@swca.com.
This is part of an ongoing regional effort to better prepare for wildfire threats and improve overall community resilience.
