FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — A behavioral crisis involving an 11-year-old child prompted a police response Saturday afternoon at the Northland Family Health Center, ending peacefully after officers successfully negotiated with the juvenile.

According to radio traffic, Flagstaff Police were dispatched to the facility at approximately 2:20 p.m. after an employee called 911 to report that an 11-year-old child was acting violently in the front area of the building.

The caller reported the child was attempting to stab objects and break a window using a butter knife and a fork. Employees locked a door to prevent the child from entering certain areas of the facility and described the juvenile as extremely unstable and physically violent.

Officers arrived on scene at approximately 2:25 p.m. and located the child near the youth shelter portion of the property. During the incident, the juvenile returned inside the building and barricaded himself inside his room.

Officers then began speaking with the child in an effort to de-escalate the situation. At approximately 2:33 p.m., the juvenile agreed to come out voluntarily and accept help.

The situation was declared safe a short time later, and officers cleared the scene without any reported injuries.

Due to the age of the child and the sensitive nature of the incident, no additional identifying information is being released. Flagscanner will not be identifying the juvenile involved.
