FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Crews are on the scene of a vegetation fire now identified as the “Diamond Fire,” which has grown to approximately 7 acres Thursday afternoon, according to radio traffic.
The fire was first reported around 2:27 p.m. as a 1.5 to 2-acre vegetation fire burning in timber litter and grass. Air resources quickly confirmed the fire, with ground crews responding shortly after.
By approximately 2:44 p.m., the incident had been officially named the Diamond Fire and had expanded to an estimated 2 to 3 acres, prompting officials to upgrade the response level due to its size and location.
As of the latest update around 3:16 p.m., the fire has grown to 7 acres, burning in pine litter and ponderosa, with a low to moderate rate of spread. Despite the growth, no additional resources have been requested at this time.
Authorities have indicated the fire is being investigated as arson, and law enforcement is actively searching for a suspect. No description of the suspect has been released. No evacuations have been ordered. The fire is estimated to be under control soon. Detectives are responding.
