FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The City of Flagstaff Sustainability Office is inviting community members to take part in a series of spring events focused on environmental awareness, waste reduction, and hands-on learning.

Earth Day Celebration

The annual Earth Day Celebration will take place on Saturday, April 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bushmaster Park. The event will feature live music, workshops, local food trucks, and dozens of sustainability-focused organizations offering activities and information.

Organizers say volunteers are still needed for roles such as setup and takedown, waste prevention, bike valet, fire-wise efforts, and invasive plant removal. Attendees are encouraged to come prepared with water and weather-appropriate clothing.

The event is designed to be accessible to all, with American Sign Language (ASL) translators available during workshops, along with wheelchair-accessible parking and ramps.

Drop-Off Day

A week later, on Saturday, April 25, the City of Flagstaff Sustainability Office, alongside the Flagstaff Police Department and Coconino County, will host a Drop-Off Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Coconino County Health and Human Services Building (2625 N. King St).

Residents can safely dispose of items such as expired medications, batteries, aerosol cans, light bulbs, electronic waste, medical syringes, and sensitive documents (limited to two boxes per vehicle for shredding).

Officials note that certain items will not be accepted, including CRT televisions, liquid waste like paint or chemicals, illegal drugs, car seats, and commercial waste.

Fix-It Clinic

The final event, the Fix-It Clinic, will be held Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Joe C. Montoya Community & Senior Center (245 N. Thorpe Rd).

These clinics pair community members with skilled volunteers who can help repair small appliances, clothing, electronics, and other household items. The goal is to promote sustainability through reuse and reduce waste.

Appointments are recommended, though walk-ins will be accepted.

City officials say the series of events highlights Flagstaff’s continued commitment to sustainability while providing residents with practical ways to get involved and make a difference in their community.
